The Important Things in Life生活中重要的事情

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2 inches indiameter.課前，一位哲學教授站在講臺上，他面前的桌子上放了幾樣東西。上課後，教授什麼也沒說，他拿起一個又大又空的蛋黃醬罐子，然後往裡面放入大概2英寸直徑的小石塊。

The rocks are the important things – your family, your partner, your health, your children – things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. 「If you put the sand into the jar first,」 he continued, 「there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party, or fix the disposal.」 教授繼續說：「如果你先把沙子放進這個罐子，那罐子裡就沒有地方放小鵝卵石和石塊了，你們的人生也是這樣。如果你將所有的時間和精力都放在那些小事情上，你就不會有精力關注那些真正對你重要的東西。將精力放在那些真正和你的幸福息息相關的事情上。和你的孩子一起玩耍。帶你的愛人出去跳舞。而工作，打掃屋子，舉辦場宴會，修理東西，這些事情總是會有時間的。」
