Wemadetremendousprogressduringthe90sunderaDemocraticpresident,withaflourishingeconomy,andourleadershipforpeaceandsecurityrespectedaroundtheworld.Justthinkhowmuchmoreprogresswecouldhavemadeoverthepast40yearsifwehadaDemocraticpresident.Thinkaboutthelostopportunitiesofthesepastsevenyears--ontheenvironmentandtheeconomy,onhealthcareandcivilrights,oneducation,foreignpolicyandtheSupremeCourt.Imaginehowfarwecould'vecome,howmuchwecould'veachieved,ifwehadjusthadaDemocratintheWhiteHouse.

Whenwefirststarted,peopleeverywhereaskedthesamequestions:CouldawomanreallyserveasCommander-in-Chief?Well,Ithinkweansweredthatone.
AndcouldanAfricanAmericanreallybeourPresident?SenatorObamahasansweredthatone.TogetherSenatorObamaandIachievedmilestonesessentialtoourprogressasanation,partofourperpetualdutytoformamoreperfectunion.
Now,onapersonalnote–whenIwasaskedwhatitmeanstobeawomanrunningforPresident,Ialwaysgavethesameanswer:thatIwasproudtoberunningasawomanbutIwasrunningbecauseIthoughtI'dbethebestPresident.ButIamawoman,andlikemillionsofwomen,Iknowtherearestillbarriersandbiasesoutthere,oftenunconscious.IwanttobuildanAmericathatrespectsandembracesthepotentialofeverylastoneofus.
Iranasadaughterwhobenefitedfromopportunitiesmymotherneverdreamedof.Iranasamotherwhoworriesaboutmydaughter'sfutureandamotherwhowantstoleadallchildrentobrightertomorrows.TobuildthatfutureIsee,wemustmakesurethatwomenandmenalikeunderstandthestrugglesoftheirgrandmothersandmothers,andthatwomenenjoyequalopportunities,equalpay,andequalrespect.Letusresolveandworktowardachievingsomeverysimplepropositions:Therearenoacceptablelimitsandtherearenoacceptableprejudicesinthetwenty-firstcentury.
Youcanbesoproudthat,fromnowon,itwillbeunremarkableforawomantowinprimarystatevictories,unremarkabletohaveawomaninacloseracetobeournominee,unremarkabletothinkthatawomancanbethePresidentoftheUnitedStates.Andthatistrulyremarkable.
Tothosewhoaredisappointedthatwecouldn'tgoalltheway–especiallytheyoungpeoplewhoputsomuchintothiscampaign-itwouldbreakmyheartif,infallingshortofmygoal,Iinanywaydiscouragedanyofyoufrompursuingyours.Alwaysaimhigh,workhard,andcaredeeplyaboutwhatyoubelievein.Whenyoustumble,keepfaith.Whenyou'reknockeddown,getrightbackup.Andneverlistentoanyonewhosaysyoucan'torshouldn'tgoon.
Aswegatherheretodayinthishistoricmagnificentbuilding,the50thwomantoleavethisEarthisorbitingoverhead.Ifwecanblast50womenintospace,wewillsomedaylaunchawomanintotheWhiteHouse.
Althoughweweren'tabletoshatterthathighest,hardestglassceilingthistime,thankstoyou,it'sgotabout18millioncracksinit.Andthelightisshiningthroughlikeneverbefore,fillingusallwiththehopeandthesureknowledgethatthepathwillbealittleeasiernexttime.
ThathasalwaysbeenthehistoryofprogressinAmerica.ThinkofthesuffragistswhogatheredatSenecaFallsin1848andthosewhokeptfightinguntilwomencouldcasttheirvotes.Thinkoftheabolitionistswhostruggledanddiedtoseetheendofslavery.Thinkofthecivilrightsheroesandfoot-soldierswhomarchedprotestedandriskedtheirlivestobringabouttheendtosegregationandJimCrow.Becauseofthem,Igrewuptakingforgrantedthatwomencouldvote.Becauseofthem,mydaughtergrewuptakingforgrantedthatchildrenofallcolorscouldgotoschooltogether.Becauseofthem,BarackObamaandIcouldwageahardfoughtcampaignfortheDemocraticnomination.Becauseofthem,andbecauseofyou,childrentodaywillgrowuptakingforgrantedthatanAfricanAmericanorawomancanyes,becomePresidentoftheUnitedStates.
WhenthatdayarrivesandawomantakestheoathofofficeasourPresident,wewillallstandtaller,proudofthevaluesofournation,proudthateverylittlegirlcandreamandthatherdreamscancometrueinAmerica.Andallofyouwillknowthatbecauseofyourpassionandhardworkyouhelpedpavethewayforthatday.
SoIwanttosaytomysupporters,whenyouhearpeoplesaying–orthinktoyourself–"ifonly"or"whatif,"Isay,"pleasedon'tgothere."
Everymomentwastedlookingbackkeepsusfrommovingforward.Lifeistooshort,timeistooprecious,andthestakesaretoohightodwellonwhatmighthavebeen.Wehavetoworktogetherforwhatstillcanbe.AndthatiswhyIwillworkmyheartouttomakesurethatSenatorObamaisournextPresident.
AndIhopeandpraythatallofyouwilljoinmeinthateffort.TomysupportersandcolleaguesinCongress,tothegovernorsandmayors,electedofficialswhostoodwithme,ingoodtimesandinbad,thankyouforyourstrengthandleadership.Tomyfriendsinourlaborunionswhostoodstrongeverystepoftheway–Ithankyouandpledgemysupporttoyou.Tomyfriends,fromeverystageofmylife–yourloveandongoingcommitmentssustainmeeverysingleday.Tomyfamily–especiallyBillandChelseaandmymother,youmeantheworldtomeandIthankyouforallyouhavedone.Andtomyextraordinarystaff,volunteersandsupporters,thankyouforworkingthoselong,hardhours.Thankyoufordroppingeverything–leavingworkorschool–travelingtoplacesyou'dneverbeen,sometimesformonthsonend.Andthankstoyourfamiliesaswellbecauseyoursacrificewastheirstoo.Allofyouwerethereformeeverystepoftheway.
Beinghuman,weareimperfect.That'swhyweneedeachother.Tocatcheachotherwhenwefalter.Toencourageeachotherwhenweloseheart.Somemaylead;othersmayfollow;butnoneofuscangoitalone.
Thechangeswe'reworkingforarechangesthatwecanonlyaccomplishtogether.Life,liberty,andthepursuitofhappinessarerightsthatbelongtoeachofusasindividuals.Butourlives,ourfreedom,ourhappiness,arebestenjoyed,bestprotected,andbestadvancedwhenwedoworktogether.

Iwilldoitwithaheartfilledwithgratitude,withadeepandabidingloveforourcountry–andwithnothingbutoptimismandconfidenceforthedaysahead.ThisisnowourtimetodoallthatwecantomakesurethatinthiselectionweaddanotherDemocraticpresidenttothatverysmalllistofthelast40yearsandthatwetakebackourcountryandonceagainmovewithprogressandcommitmenttothefuture.
