戴鐵郎原籍廣東惠陽，1930年生於新加坡，1940年回國。
1953年畢業於北京電影學院後進入上海電影製片廠美術片組，1957年進入上海美術電影製片廠。
戴鐵郎先生參與和導演的作品包括《黑貓警長》《我的朋友小海豚》《小紅臉和小藍臉》《牧笛》《小蝌蚪找媽媽》《草原英雄小姐妹》《九色鹿》等。

Born in Singapore in 1930, Dai moved to China at the age of 10. After college graduation, he began working at the Shanghai Animation Film Studio where he joined the production of a number of animation masterpieces such as "A Deer of Nine Colors."
