From the arctic waters of the Southern Ocean, to an ancient city 2,400m (8,000ft) above sea level, BBC Radio 5 Live listeners have been telling Nicky Campbell about their most amazing travel destinations.

Trudy in Warwick said her most memorable travel experience was trekking across the Inca Trail in Peru.

She embarked on the five-day trek to raise money for charity and said the experience was 「life changing」.

After returning from Peru, Trudy decided to change her job. 「I’m not a sort of soul-searching person… but I did a lot of soul searching on the trek."

Mike in Kendal recommends everybody should visit Ghana, if they can.

He went to Ghana’s Volta region, which is an area of extraordinary scenic beauty, when his daughter was in the country teaching English.

「It was just a fantastic unspoilt bit of Ghana,」 he said.

He said unfortunately he didn’t get to see elephants on his trip as he was staying too far south, 「but we saw some fantastic monkeys」.

Diane is a travel agent living in Colchester: she says India is a must for any traveller.

「It’s not everyone’s cup of tea,」 she said. 「But the culture, the people, and all the places out there, all the buildings, they’re just amazing.

Mags in Edinburgh said the Great Barrier Reef was an 「incredible」 holiday for her family.

「We took the kids 10 years ago, floating face down with snorkels and masks,」 she said.

Sean was part of the clipper round the world yacht race several years ago and said the most memorable place he went was the Southern Ocean.

「It’s just awesome and empty and just stunningly beautiful,」 he said. 「You』ve got no land, all way round the circumference of the globe, and the wind just goes around and around and get stronger and stronger.

「So you get these massive storms, but then afterwards you get a fantastic lull after the storm.
