過去分詞作狀語

過去分詞在句中能作狀語修飾謂語動詞或整個句子。本篇重在解釋過去分詞作狀語的疑難問題。

一、分詞在句中作狀語時, 可表示時間、原因、條件、方式、伴隨、結果、讓步等。過去分詞作狀語多放在句首, 也可放在後面或插在中間。如：

Bornin a poor family, Nadia had only two years of schooling.

由於出生於貧寒家庭, 納迪亞只上過兩年學。(表原因)

Whenasked her future plans, the girl said that she wanted to be a teacher.

當問到未來的計劃時, 這個女孩說她想成為一名教師。(表時間)

當誤服時,有些藥可以要人命。(表條件)

二、過去分詞作狀語, 表示時間、原因、條件、讓步時可轉換為相應的狀語從句；表示方式、結果和伴隨時可轉化為並列分句。如：

Thefilm star got off the train, surrounded by her fans. →

Thefilm star stepped out of the train and she was surrounded by her fans.

那位電影明星走下火車,被她的粉絲團團圍住。

Givena lot of moneybeen是誰的過去分詞, he lived a better life. →

Afterhe was given a lot of money, he lived a better life. →

給他許多錢後, 他的日子過得好多了。

三、過去分詞與現在分詞的完成被動式的關係：過去分詞如果既表示被動, 又表示動作的完成, 常可轉化成現在分詞的完成被動式；過去分詞如果只表示被動, 不表示動作的完成, 則不可與現在分詞的完成被動式換用。如：

Seenfrom the hill, the city looks magnificent.

從山上看, 這座城市非常壯觀。(過去分詞只表被動)

Discussed(Having been discussed) many times, the plan was carried out at last.

在討論了許多次之後, 這個計劃最終被執行了。(過去分詞既表被動, 也表動作的完成)
