武一杉的作品展現了其具思辨性的繪畫追求，以及深沉而敏銳的畫面掌控力。畫面的各種細節及形象富有想像力，已經跳出了自然主義的範疇。作品呈現出的力量感是近年來工筆作品中少有的。

我一向主張，現代中國畫創新，如果精神內涵是現代的，藝術語言就應堅持傳統，否則很難避免異化為西畫。反之，精神內涵是傳統的，藝術語言就應現代化，否則難與古畫拉開時代距離。《卻·空》一畫正合此理，所以具有與時俱進的當代性，沒有停滯在十字路口。
