好歌賞析 ---- 聽歌過程中練習聽、講英文口語能力。

口語學習必須要有一個能聽和講的環境，才能易於進步；在國內要有這樣的語言環境，不是每個人都可以能夠做到。所以小雙老師建議大家透過聽、唱英文歌曲，去提升聽力和發音。而且大部分英文歌曲的歌詞（特別是一些懷舊歌曲），有故事的內容，用詞簡而美，文法又正確。是很值得用來作為英語學習參考。有興趣提升英語水平的朋友們，請繼續關注本欄目!

這首歌首次發表在1947年，作者是Merle Travis，他是一個鄉村音樂吉他手，他生長在一個挖煤礦的家庭（生活在美國肯塔基州的Muhlenberg 郡的礦場），父親是一名礦工。他寫這首歌的靈感來自於童年生活，和父親曾說過的一些話。

窮人是由肌肉和血液造

話說當年美國的礦工生活艱苦，礦工黑老闆給工資不發錢，只發一張工資條，然後礦工們就拿著這工資條，到公司辦的小賣部（the company store），換領食物和生活必需品，所以Merle 父親曾說過這麼一句話：「I can't afford to die. I owe my soul to the company store」，意思是我不能死，因為我的靈魂押了給公司的小賣部！

歌詞粗俗，但很寫實，表達出當年礦工們生活狀況，和他們面對生活的心態 --- 有一天工作就過一天！

1.made out of mud --- 這是西方聖經上的說法，上帝用泥巴造人。「Make out of XX =用 XX來造」的意思。

2.St. Peter 聖彼得 --- 是耶穌十二門徒之一。

3.Number-nine coal --- 九號煤，是煤礦的一種等級。

4.Middle Name --- 中間名字；西方人的姓名一般由三部分組成，First Name （第一名字,是常用的名字）、Middle Name （中間名字）和Last Name 或 Family Name（最後名字= 姓）。
